Swim Team General Information

Old Pike Swim Team offers training and competition for swimmers of all ages and abilities.  Swimmers must be able to successfully complete both 25 freestyle and backstroke to be a member of the team.  We offer swim lessons for swimmers that do not yet have these abilities.  Our summer swim team is designed to provide instruction, stroke refinement, and competition.  Most of all, we want our swimmers to have fun and develop a love of the sport.

We also offer a developmental program called Pike Tykes.  See additional information below under swim groups.

  • A $5 per swimmer donut fee will be added to cover the cost of donuts for our Fun Fridays.
  • Current year-round (club) swimmers will not need to pay the $40 USA swimming fee, as their $40 fees to USA Swimming have already been paid.
  • Club Swimming Note: We welcome club swimmers and are happy to work with your club practice schedule so that you can participate in both teams for meets.

Registration can be completed online and all registration fees can be paid online with a credit card payment or you can choose to pay pay offline at check out and bring cash or check to the first practice.

Head Coach - Riley Byrne

Riley was born and raised in the Northland. He graduated from Oak Park High School in 2009. Atfer high school he attended Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri where he graduated in 2013 with a Bachelor's in Elementary Education and a minor in Mass Media Production. After college Riley opened Squid Prints/Swim, a printing and swim supply store which he ran for 7 years until he began his teaching career. He is currently a 6th grade teacher at Eastgate 6th Grade Center in the north Kansas City School District.

Riley has been coaching swimming since 2007 and has been with Club North since it was started in 2011. He has also coached other club, school, and summer teams as well depending on the season. These teams include MSA in Springfield, Old Pike Country Club and the NKC Middle School swim program. While growing up, Riley swam for the Old Pike Sharks and every summer and for Oak Park High School during the school year. Over the years, he has swam for Northland United Swim Team and Blue Wave Swim Team. His favorite stroke to swim is breaststroke and his favorite race was the 100 breaststroke.

When it comes to coaching swimming, Riley believes that every child should learn how to swim; it is one of the necessary skills for life and it is a life-long sport. He loves to coach swimmers who may have had little experience but have a great drive to learn. Watching these kind of swimmers grow and improve is always so much fun. His philosophy for coaching is that it can be hard and challenging at times, but it is important to relax and have some fun sometimes as well to keep everyone invigorated and energized.

Robbie Hill - Assistant Coach

Robbie has been a member of Old Pike since he was 3 years old. He has swum for the Sharks since the age of 4. He has worked in many capacities at the pool since he was 14. He graduated from Oak Park High school and currently attends Missouri State University where he is studying Health Science and swimming for the Bears. When he’s not in the pool, he likes to golf and play disc golf

Hello everyone, My name is Henry Kasyjanski and I am one of the swim coaches for the 2022 Old Pike Swim season! I started swimming at Old Pike when I was eight years old and attended every conference until I graduated from the league three years ago. I spent those winters swimming competitively at Northland United and later Club North. I attended Rockhurst High School and participated in their swim and dive program all four years, ultimately leading the team as head captain my senior year. I currently attend the University of Kentucky, where I study Neuroscience. I spent my last two summers as a coach, then head coach, of Blue Hills Country Club (who happen to be the sharks as well!). I am very excited to make a return to coaching and to the Old Pike Community! Once a Shark, always a Shark!

Swim Groups

Pike Tykes
Pike Tykes are for our younger swimmers, 5 to 8 years of age, that can swim the length of the pool but aren't ready for swim meets right away.   The  goal for this group is to progress to competition during the season.

8 and Under Age Group
This is our entry level group.  Swimmers need to be able to swim both freestyle and backstroke.  Competition will consist of 25 yard events in each stroke.  There will also be both a medley and freestyle relays.   Swimmers will be assigned to lanes based upon their ability levels and training needs.

9-10 Age Group
This age group will compete in 50 meter races, as well as the 100 Individual Medley.  Swimmers will learn to do effective flip-turns and develop more endurance for racing.  Additionally, an emphasis on stroke development will continue.  Swimmers will be assigned to lanes based upon ability and training needs.

11-12 Age Group
Swimmers will continue to compete in 50 meter races and 100 meter Individual Medley.  Practices will continue to focus on technique and endurance.  Swimmers will be assigned to lanes based upon training needs.

13-14 Age Group
Swimmers in this age group will continue to compete in 50 meter races and 100 meter Individual Medley.  Practices will focus on both technique and development of endurance.  Swimmers will be assigned to lanes based upon their training needs.

15-18 Age Group
This is our oldest age group.  Swimmers will continue to participate in 50 meter races and 100 meter Individual medley.  Practices will continue to focus on technique and endurance.  Swimmers will be assigned to lanes based upon their training needs.
