Old Pike Swim Team offers training and competition for swimmers of all ages and abilities. Swimmers must be able to successfully complete both 25 freestyle and backstroke to be a member of the team. We offer swim lessons for swimmers that do not yet have these abilities. Our summer swim team is designed to provide instruction, stroke refinement, and competition. Most of all, we want our swimmers to have fun and develop a love of the sport.
We also offer a developmental program called Pike Tykes. See additional information below under swim groups.
Fees cover expenses such as coaching fees, insurance, Northland Swim Conference fees, USA Swimming fees and equipment (public address system, upkeep on starting blocks, lane ropes, flags, tables, etc.)
Registration can be completed online and all registration fees can be paid online with a credit card payment or you can choose to pay pay offline at check out and bring cash or check to the first practice.
Registration refunds are not guaranteed because of team fee obligations to USA Swimming and the Northland Swim Conference. As a result, any possible refunds may be partial and must occur before June 15th.
Riley was born and raised in the Northland. He graduated from Oak Park High School in 2009. Atfer high school he attended Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri where he graduated in 2013 with a Bachelor's in Elementary Education and a minor in Mass Media Production. After college Riley opened Squid Prints/Swim, a printing and swim supply store which he ran for 7 years until he began his teaching career. He is currently a 6th grade teacher at Eastgate 6th Grade Center in the north Kansas City School District.
Riley has been coaching swimming since 2007 and has been with Club North since it was started in 2011. He has also coached other club, school, and summer teams as well depending on the season. These teams include MSA in Springfield, Old Pike Country Club and the NKC Middle School swim program. While growing up, Riley swam for the Old Pike Sharks and every summer and for Oak Park High School during the school year. Over the years, he has swam for Northland United Swim Team and Blue Wave Swim Team. His favorite stroke to swim is breaststroke and his favorite race was the 100 breaststroke.
When it comes to coaching swimming, Riley believes that every child should learn how to swim; it is one of the necessary skills for life and it is a life-long sport. He loves to coach swimmers who may have had little experience but have a great drive to learn. Watching these kind of swimmers grow and improve is always so much fun. His philosophy for coaching is that it can be hard and challenging at times, but it is important to relax and have some fun sometimes as well to keep everyone invigorated and energized.
